Icebreakers and Introductions

Summary

This chapter discusses active participation of participants in a classroom. It describes a procedure for finding people alike to help learners get to know each other quickly. The chapter provides an overview of a session opener for meetings, team building, or training that introduces participants and encourages involvement, and provides an efficient strategy that helps a trainer to gauge participants' expectations regarding an upcoming training session. It deals with an honoring experience and expertise strategy to show participants that the trainers honor and respect the experience that they bring to the training, and set them up for ongoing participation throughout the session. The chapter provides a procedure for the participants to know more about each other and to recognize commonalities, so as to create a sheet to record commonalities with other participants.
