Summary

This chapter explores a miscellany of subjects and provides a short historical context, contemporary methods that are now being used, visual cross-overs and comparisons and suggestions for further reading. The case studies demonstrate a survey of printing and reproduction methods used in the past and how many have evolved over time. The chapter also explores the ideas, traditional processes and materials that may have been modified or recycled in response to emerging technologies and trends. The reason for including a case study on wallcovering, is that, like the traditional print, it demonstrates several centuries of provenance, and through print archives and picture books, highlights 2.5dimensional (2.5D) printings as applied design and art form. Advances in 2.5D and three-dimensional (3D) printing also allow the production of accurate three-dimensional physical models. The research also looks to develop accompanying software and data representation to produce a cohesive workflow toward future 2.5D printing technology and its creative applications.
