Abstract
Ter.ri.glo.ba'les. N.L. masc. n. Terriglobus, type genus of the order; L. fem. pl. n. suff. -ales, ending to denote an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Terriglobales, the order of Terriglobus.
Acidobacteriota / Terriglobia / Terriglobales
The order Terriglobales, being the only currently described order with a validly published name in the class Terriglobia, was circumscribed on the basis of phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences. The name Terriglobales was established in 2022 in order to replace the previously used name of this order, “Acidobacteriales”, which was placed on the list of nomina rejicienda. At present, the order contains two families, the Acidobacteriaceae and Candidatus Korobacteraceae. Members of the order are Gram-stain negative, non-spore-forming, acidophilic or acidotolerant, mesophilic and psychrotolerant, chemoheterotrophic bacteria, which utilize various sugars and polysaccharides, possess a number of hydrolytic capabilities and are particularly abundant in acidic soils, peatlands and mineral iron-rich environments.
DNA G + C content (mol%): 55.4–62.7 (genome sequences).
