Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck region is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. This chapter provides an overview of the epidemiology of head and neck cancer; the assessment of the patient with head and neck cancer; the TNM staging system for head and neck cancer; and of neck dissection.
