The Changing Landscape of Translation and Interpreting Studies

Summary

Translation and interpreting studies is now a vast and growing area of scholarship. This essay offers a broad overview of some of its main concerns, focusing on a number of themes that have received growing attention in the 1990s and the early part of the twenty-first century. These are: representation; minority–majority relations; globalization, the global economy, and global resistance. The essay concludes with a brief discussion of future directions, including further engagement with questions of ethics and trust, and the impact of new media cultures and technologies.
