Summary

Developing 3D stereoscopic applications has become really popular in the software industry. 3D stereoscopic research is advancing fast due to the commercial need and the popularity of 3D stereoscopic products. Therefore, this chapter gives a short discussion of commercially available and advanced technologies for application development. The discussed topics include glass-less two-view systems, 3D capturing and displaying systems, two-view gaming systems, mobile 3D systems and perception, and 3D augmented reality systems. Computer graphics provides a virtual environment (VE) to immerse a user into a synthetic environment but a user cannot actually see the world around him or her. Augmented reality (AR), a variation on VE, allows the user to see parts of the world with virtual objects added into the real world.
