Sociodemographic Correlates of DSM-IV Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Summary

This study investigated the prevalence, sociodemographic correlates, and symptom endorsement of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) in the general U.S. population based on the Wave 2 NESARC. Prevalence of NPD was 6.2% in the total sample, with greater rates among men, Blacks, young adults, and divorced, separated, or widowed respondents. NPD symptomatology also varied by sex, age, and race-ethnicity, highlighting the importance of these factors in personality pathology.
