Abstract

In this chapter we shall explore the role of advocacy in social work. While there is no widely agreed upon definition of advocacy in social work, we can find significant similarity in the description of the various elements of advocacy and what advocacy means. Specifically, this chapter will include the historical development of advocacy, the role of advocacy, advocacy in macro and clinical social work, levels and strategies of advocacy and potential barriers to advocacy.
