Abstract

This chapter focuses on understanding the nature of social justice in social work. By examining definitions, attributes, models, and practice theories of social justice, the chapter provides social workers with an understanding of social justice and how it has been considered in the profession. The implications lend themselves for future generations of social workers to consider their roles and their skills in advancing social justice with clients, in communities, the nation, and the world. Social work is a profession with a rich history of wanting to be a major force in advancing social justice. Now there are, and will continue to be, opportunities to take knowledge and put it into practice for the benefit of those that are most in need.
